Essex Invitational Track Results

Ten of the track team’s top performers competed in the largest and most competitive high school athletic event in Vermont, the Essex Invitational/New England Qualifier, on Saturday May 29th.  Special congratulations to Senior Co-Captain Brittany Pfaff for her 1st place finish in the 400 meter run and for her strong 2nd place finish in the 300 meter hurdles in which she broke her own Division 2 record set earlier in the season.  Pfaff also finished 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles to highlight yet another pfabulous day in her illustrious athletic career.  Senior Co-Captain Ben Martin continued his monster season with a 4th place finish in the 200 meter dash and a 6th place finish in the 100 meter dash; in the process setting personal bests in the preliminary heats of both races, which he won by wide margins.  Super Senior Sean Hayes had another outstanding day, finishing 4th in the 400 meter run and continuing his trend of setting a personal best each time he runs the event, while Lucas Austin stepped up big in the long jump, finishing 4th with a personal best performance.  These four athletes earned the opportunity to compete against the best from all over New England in New Britain, Connecticut on June 12th.  Other top ten performances included Hayes’ 8th place finish in the long jump and Senior Co-Captain Carole Frey’s 9th place finish in the 400 meter dash, which was done in personal record setting fashion.  Senior Isaac Potvin narrowly missed a top ten finish, taking 11th in the 800 meters with a personal best run, while Senior Co-Captain Meredith Sabens and Senior Emeline Gaujac had personal best performances in the 300 meter hurdles.  Freshman phenoms Tim Dupuis and Matt Bellows each had strong showings, leaving no doubt that they are future forces to be reckoned with.  Next up is the State Championship, scheduled for Saturday June 5th at Fair Haven High School.
