Athletic Results for 6/2

Rice teams opened the playoffs going 5 for 5 yesterday in tournament competition.

The varsity baseball team defeated Hartford 10 to 7. Chris McCormick’s grand slam highlighted Rice’s eight-run, sixth inning rally.  Sean Rugg earned the win, tossing 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Joe Boardman (two doubles) had four hits for Rice and Graham Cory added three hits with a double.

Girls’ Tennis defeated Stowe 7-0. Holly Thayer, Alaina Hauke, Julie Collins, Basa Zvarova, and Meg Beattie all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Katie Kowalski/Laura Conroy and Fredee Lalonde/ Natasha Singthong won their matches.

Boys’ Tennis defeated Burr & Burton 6-1. Greg Fitzgerald, Nathan Hauke, Rob Eyler, Mike Bula and Seth Homola all won their singles matches and the doubles team of Nick Bunch and Lucas Viani won their doubles match.

The girls’ lacrosse team defeated Sharon Academy 22-9. Jackie Spitler and Kasey Flynn each netted four goals. Katy Ranaldo netted a hat trick for the Green Knights, while Annie Finn, Molly Flynn, Christine Skeffington and McKenna Hayes each scored twice. Casey Snyder, Emily Cutting and Gretchen Tarrant also scored and Sydney Carney-Knisely made seven saves

The boys’ lacrosse team beat Vergennes 21-0. David Sartorelli led all scorers with four goals.  Nick Keating, Mike Ranaldo, Harry Foreman and Anthony Hahn each netted hat tricks for the Green Knights. Brendan Malone, Phil Jansen and Mack Yandow also scored. Mike Flynn and Luke Nestor combined to stop five shots for Rice
